Reaching new heights from the hard work of our administration, faculty, staff and students, Mack Benn, Jr. Elementary continues to excel with the assistance of
the Reading First grant, which provides $225,000 a year for the next three years. This grant focuses on reading in grades K-3 and has been a big part of the success of the school.

Mack Benn, Jr. Elementary School opened in 1998, named in honor of Mack Benn, Jr., the first African-American superintendent in Suffolk Public Schools. It houses a full-size gymnasium, art and music laboratories, a computer lab, and a media center equipped with a technology lab.
Maintaining high standards for academic success is a continuing goal at Mack Benn, Jr. Elementary which is exemplified in our motto, “Dive Into Our Ocean, It’s The Ocean of Success.”
The students and staff at Mack Benn, Jr. Elementary support a variety of charities including the United Way, March of Dimes, and the Suffolk Education Foundation.
Several incentives are offered to highlight student achievement. These incentives are: Marlin Award (Kindergarten), Platinum Honor Roll (All A’s), Golden Honor Roll (A’s & B’s), B.U.G. Club (Bringing Up Grades), Caught Being Good, Student of the Month, Accelerated Reader Program, President’s Award for Educational Excellence, and the President’s Award for Educational Achievement.
